Dana Point Turkey Trot Announces Military Discount Program and Rallies Orange County Community to Sponsor-a-Marine This Thanksgiving
The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce Initiates Discount and Fundraising Program to Support Active Duty Marines for the Holidays
CARLSBAD, CA, September 21, 2011 /California PR News/ -- The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce, organizer of the Dana Point Turkey Trot, is pleased to announce a military discount program for the 34th annual Thanksgiving Day race. Effective immediately, all active duty Camp Pendleton Marines will receive a 50 percent discount on the Turkey Trot registration fee. The Dana Point Turkey Trot will not only offer the registration discount to active duty Camp Pendleton Marines, but will also provide the Dana Point community the opportunity to come together and sponsor a Thanksgiving dinner for the 5th Marine Regiment personnel and their families this holiday season.
Mahe, a popular Dana Point restaurant located in the heart of the event action, will host the Thanksgiving Day dinner to celebrate the Marines and their families. Donations will be accepted to sponsor a Marine through the Dana Point Turkey Trot website, as well as offered to runners simultaneously when registering for this year's race. Mahe restaurant will also be open all day on Thanksgiving to welcome runners, walkers, volunteers and their friends and family to enjoy food and beverage before, during and after the race. Participants are invited to stop into Mahe for a beer or a Bloody Mary, as proceeds will benefit the 5th Marine Regiment Support Group.
"The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce and Dana Point Turkey Trot take pride in offering something for everyone, while also giving back to the local community," said Laura Ouimet, executive director, Dana Point Chamber of Commerce. "This year's Turkey Trot is helping to fundraise for Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment, accepting donations for each through our on-line registration."
The Dana Point Turkey Trot, named "one of America's best Thanksgiving Day runs" by Fitness Magazine, is known for its scenic routes, beautiful Southern California weather, and family-friendly activities. This year's 34th annual race is expected to be the biggest yet, providing participants with race enhancements that include wave starts based on anticipated race times to alleviate congestion, stroller-specific wave starts, widening of the lane for the finish-line shoot, and finisher medals for all participants. Attracting more than 16,000 participants each year to its 5K, 10K, Kids' Gobble Wobble, and two-day health and fitness expo, the Dana Point Turkey Trot is an Orange County tradition.
Camp Pendleton Marines are invited to contact the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce office at (949) 496-1555 to receive the 50 percent registration discount.
