EDC-VC's SBDC Helps to Create 181 Jobs

The EDC-VC's Small Business Development Center, which offers free consulting and low-cost training to small business owners in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, helped to create 181 over the past year.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA, September 08, 2011 /California PR News/ -- EDC-VC's Small Business Development Center of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties just celebrated its year anniversary by posting impressive results. SBDC reports that it served 317 area companies and created 181 jobs from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. This facilitated an increase of sales of $6.6 million in the region and provided access to various forms of capital exceeding $6 million.

SBDC, which offers free consulting and low-cost trainings to businesses in the region, has a roster of nearly 30 expert consultants who specialize in all areas of business. The center prides itself on being able to answer clients' technical questions related to business.

"Our SBDC is ranked number one in performance against our goal of jobs created in our SBDC network and, best of all, we're helping area businesses succeed," said Ray Bowman, SBDC director. "We have identified areas that we'd like to expand the program so that we're even better able to meet businesses' needs."

This year, SBDC launched a regional export initiative to provide free one-on-one consulting, training seminars for businesses interested in accessing export opportunities or expanding existing international exports, and is developing a program to help businesses through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant funding process.

EDC-VC's SBDC is part of the Los Angeles Regional SBDC Network; the lead center is operated by Long Beach Community College District. The Small Business Development Centers are funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the California Community Colleges Economic & Workforce Development Program, and center host institutions. Funding is not an endorsement of any product, opinion, or service. All Federal and State funded programs are extended to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Special arrangements for individuals with disability will be made if requested in advance.

EDC-VC is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as a business-to-government liaison to assist businesses in Ventura County by offering programs that enhance the economic vitality of the region.
