Rotary Club Honors Jesús Flores at 3rd Annual Ethics in Business Awards

Founder and Publisher of Trabuco Canyon News Recognized for Contributions to the Community

TUSTIN, CA, September 14, 2011 /California PR News/ -- The Rotary Club of Coto de Caza/Rancho Santa Margarita del Sol will honor Jesús Flores, retired founder and publisher of the Trabuco Canyon News, as the recipient of its 3rd annual "Ethics in Business" award. The event will take place Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 7:30 a.m. at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center in Rancho Santa Margarita.
According to Scott Doody, president of the Rotary Club of Coto de Caza/ Rancho Santa Margarita del Sol, the Rotary club unanimously decided that this year's award should go to Flores for his outstanding contributions to the community.

"The Ethics in Business award was create to recognize a local business leader who conducts business using the highest ethical standards, is sensitive to community needs and adheres to Rotary's 4 Way Test," Doody said. "Jesús Flores has shown through his business and community involvement that he is the depiction of the Rotary slogan "Service Above Self."

In 1989, Flores founded the Trabuco Canyon News in the midst of the growing communities in and around southeast Orange County. While working as a plastering supervisor during the residential construction within the new community of Rancho Santa Margarita, Flores' strong entrepreneurial spirit saw an opportunity to give the recently developed neighborhoods a voice.

With determination, Flores ventured into the newspaper business with his wife, Nancy. Over the years, the Trabuco Canyon News became a well-read publication that featured the local news of 12 communities. After 21 years of publishing, editing and delivering the community newspaper to more than 20,500 driveways, Flores retired in December 2010.

When asked about pursuing the American dream, Flores told a reporter from the OC Register in 1998, "It's reachable, but you have to commit and sacrifice a lot of things. It's about accomplishing the things my mother and father could not accomplish."

"Flores' business practices, recognized by the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, Rancho Santa Margarita Chamber of Commerce, Education For the Children, and Pat Bates, Supervisor, Fifth District, are a reflection of his giving nature and ethical behavior," stated Doody.

The cost to attend this event is $35 per person or a table of eight for $280. For reservations, contact Karen Hume at karenhume@cox.net or call (949) 635-2837.
