Move Over Mom, Master Mixologist Concocts Holiday Cheer The Tar Pit Celebrates the Biggest Drinking Night of the Year

The Tar Pit offers a holiday inspired appetizer and hand crafted cocktail menu on November 23. Those who check in via Facebook before 6:30 p.m. receive 1/3 off their first cocktail.

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 17, 2011 /California PR News/ -- The first rule on Thanksgiving at the Tar Pit is, don't talk about Thanksgiving. Los Angeles' newest hotspot is a refuge for the holiday-reluctant, with a dose of snarky cheer. The Tar Pit will pay its respects to turkeys everywhere by closing down its famed Gilded Hour on Wednesday, November 23th and offer a holiday inspired appetizer and hand crafted cocktail menu all night. Those who check in via Facebook before 6:30 p.m. receive 1/3 off their first cocktail.

And for those who feel they are too cool for pie can sample lighter, more interesting versions of Thanksgiving classics such as Cranberry, Chestnut & Brie Bruschetta, Chicken Thigh Satays with Mashed Yams & Plantain Powder, Pulled Pork Butt w/ Serrano Chili Corn Bread & Mustard Greens, and Yellow Wax Beans with Chervil & Nueske's Bacon. It's a celebration of all the trimmings without the turkey.

Tar Pit Chef de Cuisine, Jason Fullilove, explains, "This menu is very much inspired by the way chefs really eat. On Thanksgiving, we are most likely in the kitchen cooking for other people and often only have time for small bites of unusual concoctions we invent from the choicest morsels from the holiday table."

Mixologist and GM, Tyler Montgomery, adds, "We didn't set out to necessarily create turkey-infused bourbon old fashioneds, although that would be fun, but complex, intriguing and seasonal cocktails that have become new classics such as the William Tell, Scottish Fig and the 'Do You See What Happens Larry?' - the Tar Pit's homage to the White Russian.

Upcoming events include the Tar Pit's first annual Repeal Day celebration, December 5th, featuring a special offer - your first pre-prohibition cocktail at temperance prices; culminating in their Swirl, Swig & Sizzle New Year's Soiree. Campanile is housed in an historic and dramatic structure built in 1929 by architect Roy Sheldon Price for Hollywood legend Charlie Chaplin. In the late 1980s, following decades of neglect, the building was purchased by Executive Chef Mark Peel, former Pastry Chef Nancy Silverton and former Wine Director Manfred Krankl. Architect Josh Schweitzer supervised a complete remodel, converting the structure into a magical space intended for a bakery and restaurant. La Brea Bakery opened in January of 1989, with Campanile following six months later.

Over the past twenty years, both the restaurant and its Executive Chef, Mark Peel, have received numerous awards, including: the James Beard Foundation's "Outstanding Restaurant Award - 2001," the "Los Angeles Culinary Master of the Year," and Food & Wine's "Best New Chefs." We have also been nominated for the James Beard Foundation's "Outstanding Wine Service Award," its "Best California Chef Award" and, most recently, their "Outstanding Restaurant Award - 2008."
